FieldWise EMF Consulting measures homes in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley for wireless RF, AC magnetic and electric fields, dirty electricity and lighting. Snowmelt, spa and heat-tape systems draw heavy current here, so they are measured while running. Founder Cameron Castaneda takes every reading in person against Building Biology SBM-2015 guidelines. Most valley homes start with the Foundational Assessment, $850, which includes a written room by room report and an action plan call.

Valley Specifics

What Do Aspen Valley Homes Have That Others Do Not?

Energy use outside the walls, mostly. Pitkin County and the City of Aspen both charge a Renewable Energy Mitigation Program fee on what the county calls “luxury exterior energy uses, such as snowmelt systems, pools, and spas,” and Aspen’s energy code adds electric heat mats and heat tape to the list.

Each of them draws heavy current while it runs, and current produces an AC magnetic field in milligauss (mG) that passes through walls and floors. Because a snowmelt zone or a spa heater cycles on and off, a reading taken while it sits idle can miss it entirely, so these are measured running, and overnight where it helps. That is what the 24 Hour Infrastructure Assessment is built for. It logs magnetic fields through a full day and night, including while you sleep, so every snowmelt cycle, spa heater run and solar production peak shows up in the data instead of being missed.

Snowmelt, Spas and Heat Tape

Heated driveways, patios and walkways, outdoor spas and pool heaters, and heat tape on roofs and gutters. The useful question is what the field reads in the bedroom over the snowmelt zone or beside the spa equipment while the system is on.

Three Different Electric Utilities

Aspen’s own city utility serves about 3,000 connections inside city limits and has required communicating meters since January 2023. Holy Cross Energy, a cooperative, serves members across Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties with meters that report by radio. Glenwood Springs runs its own city electric department. Which one serves your address decides what kind of meter is on the wall.

Solar and Its Inverter

Under the City of Aspen’s rules, solar accounts are not eligible to opt out of a communicating meter, so a solar home in town has both the meter and an inverter to account for. Inverters are a known source of dirty electricity on household wiring. FieldWise also measures before and after a solar installation, so you can see what the system changed.

How Does a Roaring Fork Valley Visit Work?

FieldWise EMF Consulting serves all of Colorado and Wyoming, and Cameron performs every assessment personally. Valley visits are planned ahead, so the date, the systems you want measured and any travel details are settled on your free 15 minute call.

Planned Ahead on Your Free Call

Valley visits are scheduled ahead rather than same week. On your free 15 minute call, Cameron confirms the date, the address and which systems you want measured, like snowmelt zones, spa equipment, solar or network gear.

The Home Set Up the Way You Live in It

About one home in four in Pitkin County is held for seasonal or occasional use, against roughly one in thirty in Larimer County (US Census Bureau). If yours is a second home, book the visit for a time the heating, snowmelt and network equipment are running as they do when you are there, or the readings describe an empty house.

Your Report, Room by Room

Every reading goes into a written room by room report with SBM-2015 comparisons and a prioritized action plan, delivered within 4 days, followed by an action plan call to walk through it. On a larger home, the report also makes it easy to brief whoever manages the property while you are away.

Common Questions

What Do Aspen Valley Homeowners Ask About EMF Testing?

Does FieldWise really come to Aspen?

Yes. FieldWise serves all of Colorado and Wyoming, and Cameron performs every assessment personally. Valley visits are planned ahead on your free 15 minute call, and a travel fee may apply, depending on scheduling, confirmed on the call before anything is booked.

What does an EMF assessment cost in the Aspen Valley?

Most valley homes start with the Foundational Assessment, $850. It measures all four types of EMF (wireless signals, magnetic fields, electric fields and dirty electricity) plus your lighting, and includes a written room by room report, a prioritized action plan and an action plan call. For homes with snowmelt, spas, large solar systems or nearby power lines, the 24 Hour Infrastructure Assessment, $1,450, logs your home for a full day and night. Buying a home? The Pre-Purchase Inspection is $500. Lighting only? The Home Light Reset is $350. A travel fee may apply, depending on scheduling, and is always confirmed on your free 15 minute call before anything is booked.

Can you measure a snowmelt system or a spa?

Yes, and they are measured while they run. A snowmelt zone, a spa heater or heat tape draws heavy current, which produces an AC magnetic field that only exists while the system is on. Readings are taken in the rooms nearest the equipment with it running. To capture every cycle, including overnight, the 24 Hour Infrastructure Assessment logs magnetic fields for a full day and night.

Can you assess an Aspen Valley home before we purchase it?

Yes. The Pre-Purchase EMF Inspection, $500, fits inside your inspection period. In about 2 hours it measures wireless signals, magnetic and electric fields, dirty electricity, wiring and grounding problems, any solar equipment, and nearby power lines, transformers and cell sites. Your written report arrives in less than 3 days and sorts every finding into easy fixes, bigger fixes (with a rough cost range) and findings that come with the property. We go through it together on a call before your deadline. Book as early in your inspection window as you can.

Can I opt out of a smart meter in Aspen?

On the City of Aspen’s electric system, residential accounts can choose a non-communicating meter for a monthly fee, while solar, commercial and common HOA accounts cannot, according to the city. Holy Cross Energy offers manual meter reading for a monthly fee under its tariff. A measurement at the meter and in the rooms behind it shows what the meter adds before you decide, and our smart meter EMF guide explains what is measured.

Is EMF testing a medical or diagnostic service?

No. We make no medical claims and cannot diagnose or treat any condition. We measure what is present in your home, compare it against precautionary Building Biology SBM-2015 guidelines, and give you practical, prioritized reduction steps.
